Dear Advanced Placement Student:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on taking this (or additional Advanced Placement (AP) courses at Coronado High School during the 2016-17 school year. Taking an AP course and exam is a collaborative effort between you the student, your parent/guardian, the school and District 11. Each party plays a role and must make the commitment to meet the expectations noted below.

The student agrees to organize her/his time and effort to complete successfully the AP course(s) in which she/he is enrolled. The student will immediately notify teachers is she/he falls behind in class readings and/or assignments. The student will be expected to complete assignments, readings and projects outside of class time. The student is strongly encouraged to take the AP exam on its scheduled date and time as outline by the College Board (see attached schedule). Most exams will be conducted at (new location) the First Evangelical Free Church at:  820 N. 30th St.  - confirmation will follow closer to the exams.

The Parent/Guardian agrees to be familiar with and accept the AP course requirements and policies, and agrees to help his/her child organize study time in support of the class assignments. The parent/guardian agrees to purchase required materials if needed. The parent/guardian should be familiar with testing accommodations that may be granted by the College Board – all accommodation requests should be submitted by February 17 – please check with your counselor and the AP Coordinator. If the parent/guardian is unable to meet these requirements, they will contact the AP Coordinator immediately.

The School (AP Teacher and AP Coordinator) agrees to provide rigorous instruction and challenging course content as described in the AP Course Description. Palmer High School will provide the student with a copy of the Bulletin for AP Students and Parents and agrees to administer the AP Exam(s) in a fair and secure environment as outlined in the AP Coordinator's Manual. Additionally the school will register the students for the AP Exams and provide limited testing supplies.

The School District (District 11) will provide the funding to pay for the exams for each student. Typically, the cost for each exam is $97 and includes the $93 exam fee paid to College Board and a $4 local fee, which is used to help pay for proctors, rentals and administrative costs. Coronado will work within the perameters of our Colorado Education Initiative, Legacy Grant to support our population of Free and Reduced Lunch students taking STEM AP exams for reduced exam fees.   If a student is currently enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program, then no action need be taken by the parent/guardian. If a student is NOT enrolled in the program, but the parent/guardian believes that the student would qualify for a reduced exam fee - then the parents are strongly encouraged to complete the waiver paperwork and return it to Mr. Schulzki with the student registration. We are asking ONLY those parents who believe that they would qualify for a waiver to complete the paperwork. Your cooperation will insure that District 11 can access the limited funds provided by the ESCAPE program to help defray costs for all of our students.

Registration for May 2017 exams is completely online located on the Coronado Website under the menu page click - Advanced Placement. Students will register online starting January 23, 2017. Students will be able to access the website by going to www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/060273.  There will be a link to the registration page (which will become active January 23, 2017), and you will follow a series of steps to register as a student, and register for specific exams. Please be sure to be accurate!  Students MUST register for AP exams at no cost to the student or parent no later than February 23, 2017. Students who register AFTER February 23, 2017 will be assessed a $15 late fee. NO exams will be ordered after March. If you experience problems with the registration process – please contact Mrs. Schulzki as soon as possibledeadlines will NOT be extended due to 'technical issues.'​

Non-attendance and fees - If a student chooses NOT to take an AP Exam that has been ordered for the student prior to May 1, 2017, the student will be charged a $15 return fee. If a student chooses NOT to take an AP Exam after May 1, 2017​ then the student will be charged a $30 return fee. If a student has an emergency illness on the day of an AP exam the student must contact Mrs. Schulzki as soon as possible. If the student wishes to arrange for an alternate exam due to illness a doctor's note or other official notification may be required.

Please keep all deadlines in mind as you prepare for the AP exams.  Remember that ALL registration takes place online. Questions regarding fees, waivers, exam times or other issues should be directed to the AP Coordinator. Questions about the exams or exam content should be directed to your teacher.
